Born in Euclid, Ohio, Jeanie moved to California and graduated from San Jose State University with a B.S. in Industrial Design. She was a competitive Artistic Dance Roller Skater, winning two national titles. Through skating she was invited to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. After retiring from skating, she became a B level judge to give back to the sport. Jeanie currently plays tennis, competing in more than 400 league matches, and 60 tournaments. She and her husband Bill organized a yearly USTA Grand Slam Tournament through their tennis club, of which Jeanie served as President. She was on Northern California's USTA Grievance/Sportsmanship committee for several years. She is the NSG Tennis coordinator.
Ron Barco hails from Baltiore, Maryland, where he played baseball at the University of Baltimore and was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame in 2010. Besides baseball, he has over 20 years of coaching youth football experience and is now a very avid golfer, carrying an 8 handicap. His working life was with the U.S. Postal Service, serving 34 years as a Postal Career Executive Service employee. His last assignment was as the NV State Director of Postal Operations and he has lived in Las Vegas since 1991. Ron moved up from NSG Board Member to be NSG's President. Plus, he's taken on being co-coordinator for NSG Golf.
Born in New Jersey, Augie enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1961 and was discharged in 1966. He worked in the Utility field for 40 years, retiring in June 2006 when he moved to Las Vegas. He has a background of playing tennis, softball and paddle tennis and then taking up pickleball. He has coordinated five round robin charity events for Toys for Tots and the Assistance League of Las Vegas. Welcome, Augie, as Co-coordinator for NSG Pickleball.
Growing up in Minnesota, Gary Cotter did a lot of skiing and ice skating in the winter, played baseball, softball and volleyball in the summer. He earned a degree in business with an accounting major at the University of Minnesota. After tax management positions with large corporations he became a CPA, specializing in tax issues. He moved to Las Vegas in 2006, having lived in eleven states along the way. He retired in 2008 and went almost immediately to work in the Nevada Senior Games office. He soon became the NSG Executive Director, holding that position for several years, and now is NSG's Treasurer and Accountant. Gary is the Basketball 3-on-3 Women Coordinator.
Jay Dash comes from quite an athletic background. He graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in Finance where he was a member of the Penn State National Championship Gymnastic Team. He was then inducted into the United States Marine Corp, Air Naval Gun Liaison Unit, and competed in various Marine Corps field events. He has also participated in numerous marathons and international track and field competitions. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the UNLV International Business School, a member of the District Export Council of the Dept. of Commerce, and president of Jay Dash International, an international business consulting firm. Jay's the Weight Lifting/Fitness Coordinator.
Born in Chicago, Joe is a lifelong athlete who competed in several high school and college sports. He enjoyed a successful career in the U.S Army and Federal Government, spending his final years with the Federal Highway Administration. He has B.S. degrees from the University of Louisville, Ohio State University and an MBA from Syracuse. He has been a competitive cyclist for much of his life, having raced in Germany and the US in his 20s. He rediscovered competitive cycling in his 40s and at 50 discovered the Senior Games where he has competed in cycling events in Colorado, Wyoming, Nevada and National Games. He and his wife, Susan, now live in Nevada where they split their time between Carson City and Summerlin. They enjoy travel, visits to wine country, hiking, cycling and skiing. Joe runs a coaching practice. He is an NSG Board Member and is the coordinator for NSG Cycling.
Nicole Duffel is a Gold Certified Personal Trainer, Group Dance Instructor and Health Coach by the American Council on Exercise. Her career as a dance instructor, stage performer, competition dancer, show director and choreographer spans 40 years. She has a pageant legacy of seven years of consecutive pageant titles to include, Mrs Nevada United States, Ms Elite Endeavor America and Ms Senior United States! And now, coordinating the Senior Dance Division for the Nevada Senior Olympics is the next welcomed challenge for Nicole!
Rick was born in Gary, Indiana. He and family moved to western Kentucky during his grade school years where he became very active in basketball (his favorite sport), baseball, and track & field. As a high school senior, 1975, he was awarded "Most Valuable Player" for the track team, as a long distance runner. During those years, his dad taught him how to shoot and hunt. After his grauduation, his family made a big move west, ending up in the Las Vegas area. He has continued his love for shooting throughout the years, and most recently has coordinated for Paradise Church their annual fall "Turkey Shoot," with competitions in both trap shooting and pistols. Rick is the NSG Pistol Shoot Coordinator.
John Graham is a native of Ohio. Having participated in several sports such as football, tennis and Track and Field, John settled on bowling as his all time favorite. It began back in the day of human pinsetters -– he would roll 3 balls then run 60 feet down the alley to reset pins and send balls back. He won his first tournament at age 9 and has never looked back. He has six 800 series and 17 over-300’s to his credit, even bowled on the PBA Tour. He is currently working for American Airlines and has donated his time and skill to many charities, including Opportunity Village, St. Jude’s and fund raisers for breast cancer research. He enjoys talking with people -– never met a stranger -– and has experience as a DJ, an Emcee and a photographer. John is now an NSG Board Member as well as the Bowling Coordinator.
Native to the northeastern United States (Delaware, New Jersey), Tom competed in high school, college and U.S. Amateur sports. He had an extensive career with both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Government, at one time serving as Military Aide to Vice President Spiro Agnew. He has been on the NATO staff and a Country Director for the U.S. Peace Corps. He earned a PhD from the American University in Washington D.C. and has taught business subjects in universities throughout the world. He enjoys golf and bowling in his leisure time. Tom is the Walk-a-Thon Coordinator and runs a weekly Walk Around America program. He was an NSG Board of Directors member and officer for many years.
Jackie Joiner, graduate of Rancho High School, received college scholarships in both Basketball and Track and Field. She holds the school record at George Mason University for the women’s 55m hurdles and is a two-time Penn Relay Gold Watch Winner. She is active in the Southern Nevada Officials Association and has been a USATF Master Official since 2013. She also has extensive experience with coaching in Youth Track and Field programs. This is all in addition to her regular job as a Juvenile Probation Officer. NSG is very fortunate to have Jackie as a co-coordinator of its T&F events.
Dean was born and grew up in a small farming community in Northeastern Vermont. He attended Northeastern University where he first started playing volleyball. He began playing seniors volleyball in the late 1990’s and has been the coordinator for the Henderson Senior Volleyball Games for the last decade. During that time the volleyball tournament has grown from a small tournament of about 15 teams, to now about 60 teams. He is always looking for more volleyball players, so contact him if you are interested in playing. Dean is the NSG Volleyball Coordinator.
Born and raised in Wisconsin, Ben Luebke was an all-state high school basketball and baseball player. He went to the University of South Dakota on an athletic scholarship, intending to become a math teacher and coach. After his junior year he was drafted by the Montreal Expos, played two years, but incurred a knee injury and was released to "normal life." He played a couple more years of semi-pro ball in Green Bay, then moved to Las Vegas in the late 80's. He has been a food broker for the past 30 years and enjoys golf in his spare time. Ben is the past-President of NSG and a co-coordinator for NSG Golf.
Jim Marshall has been a resident of Southern Nevada since 1971 and an active member of the Las Vegas Archers since 1988 He enjoys camping, fishing, hiking and hunting as wall as traveling to various archery tournaments, meeting new people and making friends. He is married, with four children and five grandchildren. Jim is the coordinator for NSG Archery.
Al hails from Bakersfield CA where he was an outstanding track athlete, both at Bakersfield High and Bakersfield Community College. He continued his education at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he was awarded Most Outstanding Senior Athlete. He earned a Master's Degree at UNLV in 1972 and was Head Track and Field Coach there from 1973-1992, earning many honors and awards throughout that time, including USATF Man of the Year and induction in to the UNLV Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a previous NSG Games Director as well as Track and Field Coordinator and Basketball Skills Coordinator. He has been an NSG Board of Directors member for close to 20 years.
Triathlon was never a sport Bonnie considered participating in until a few months before her 50th birthday. When she barely finished a “beginner” triathlon, she discovered she wasn’t the athlete she thought she was! So began her journey of improved fitness that now includes race walking, cycling, strength training, and - of course - triathlon. She has medaled in race walking, power walking, and cycling in the Nevada Senior Games, Huntsman World Senior Games (Utah), and Washington State Senior Games. In addition to being the Triathlon Coordinator, she is the manager of the NSG Facebook and Twiiter pages.
A native of Iowa, Nedra and family moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 1952 (five years after the infamous "crash.") A graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, she has over 30 years of teaching experience in high school mathematics and physical education, as well as having coached volleyball and badminton for over 15 years in Southern California. She is mother of two, grandmother of four, all still in California. After retiring she moved to Las Vegas, by way of Laughlin, and is currently active in local tennis leagues. Nedra is the Badminton Coordinator, and is the NSG Games Director.
James is a basketball shooting coach and Master Shooter. He was the Overall Champion at the 2014 Huntsman World Senior Games where he tied the world record in the Hot Shots event (62) he had set the day before at the Nevada Senior Games. Based in San Diego, CA, where he also coordinated their Senior Games basketball shooting events, James travels throughout the country doing clinics, working camps, and competing in basketball shooting events. James is the NSG Basketball Skills Coordinator.
While a student at Chaparral High in Las Vegas, Larry Powell was 3 time state champion in Long Jump, Triple and 110m High Hurdles. After receiving several scholarship offers he chose UNLV to continue his education and record setting ways. However, after his freshman year, Title IX was implemented and UNLV no longer had a men’s track team. He enrolled at Oxnard College in CA where he won WAC championships two years in a row in long jump, high jump and triple jump. He earned degrees in Criminal Justice and Business Finance, moved back to Las Vegas and began a law enforcement career. He is active coaching youth T&F as well as being a USATF official. NSG is very fortunate that Larry has become a co-coordinator for its T&F events.
Rob has been active in shuffleboard since 1994 and is a past president of the USA National Shuffleboard Association. He has played in numerous tournaments in Arizona, Canada, California, and Florida, winning his first National Championship in 2010 in Mesa, Arizona. He has been the Shuffleboard Tournament Director for tournaments throughout the west, among them the Washington, Oregon, Arizona State Senior Games and the Huntsman's World Senior Games. He has been and will be the Coordinator for the National Senior Games Shuffleboard Tournament as well.
Raised in Las Vegas, Shirley started playing softball and basketball in junior high, then in high school added volleyball, tennis and track to her repertoire. Allergies, however, caused her to go indoors and she discovered racquetball. She competed in Corporate Challenge racquetball for many years and has recently discovered pickleball. She loves both sports and intends to play until her body tells her she’s done. To quote Shirley: “Sports is meeting all kinds of nice people. It transcends politics, religion and ethnicity -- so let’s play!" Shirley is the NSG Racquetball Coordinator.
Born in France, Vincent Schmitt graduated from ENSAM Engineering University in Paris and moved to California in 1998 to work in the CAD/CAM software industry. He moved to Las Vegas in 2007 and has been involved in local table tennis activities for the past 5 years. Vincent is a co-coordinator for NSG Table Tennis.
In the 1980’s Lee-Ann Skomski swam the 200 meter long course (50 meters per length) freestyle in the summer Olympic sport that she excelled in, Modern Pentathlon. She competed in 7 World Championships, being one of the leaders for female pentathletes in the Olympics today. Modern Pentathlon has been modified over the years, for better media presentation, but it still consists of epee fencing, freestyle swimming, equestrian jumping (draw an unknown horse), pistol shooting (lazer now) and cross country running (3K for men and women now). That's her background. She is also a cancer survivor. NSG is very fortunate to have her as the Swimming Coordinator.
Sandi Stapleton has extensive experience in management and leading a team. She has held various positions from sales to Senior Vice President in the Auto Lending industry for several National Finance organizations. She recently retired and moved to Las Vegas from San Felipe, Mexico. Her passion is running, race walking and power walking and has done so in France, Spain and Portugal as well as the U.S. She is currently the NSG Office Manager and Coordinator for the 5K and 10K Road Races.
Connie Stewart is passionate about softball. She played it competitively for over 30 years in the private sector as well as the military. She has also coached it, umpired it, been a Tournament Director for many years and was Chair for the Women's Advisory Board to the National Senior Softball Summit . She is currently the Women's Softball Tournament Director for the Huntsman's World Senior Games, the Mesquite Senior Games and for the Nevada Senior Games, which is held in conjunction with the Mesquite Games. She loves this sport. She even got married on a softball field in the middle of a tournament.
Born in Chevy Chase, MD, with stops in Florida, Ohio and California, Jim Terry has finally settled down in Las Vegas. After college and traveling the world Jim organized and produced animated film festivals throughout the United States and Canada. He has participated in many sports from backpacking and skiing to golf and rock climbing. The one sport that has been a constant in Jim’s life has been swimming. After joining a masters group while in college he became serious with the sport and has participated and coached various masters programs. Jim competed in the 2014 Senior Games and had such fun he decided to become involved with the Nevada Senior Games organization. He looks forward to helping spread the word about the Senior Games and the healthy lifestyle it promotes. Jim was the NSG Executive Director and coordinator for Rock Climbing. He's now co-coordinator for Pistol Shoot and Swimming.
Sandy Tudor has been involved in all aspects of Softball for many years. She has umpired everything from 10U girls fast pitch to 80+ men’s slow pitch. She has been the Umpire in Chief for one of 85 USA Associations, Tournament Director of National Tournaments, a JO Commissioner, and has been asked to be a technical commissioner for the international 19U upcoming games in So Cal. She recently moved to Mesquite and immediately became involved with the Mesquite Senior Games men’s softball tournament which in turn is in conjunction with the Nevada Senior Games. Welcome to the fold, Sandy.
Native of California, Roxann Zunino moved to Las Vegas in 1966 where she attended UNLV, married and had two children. She has spent the last 37 years making a career at Southwest Gas as an Accounting Manager. In 1978 she got interested in bocce and has since been instrumental in forming the Bocce Club of Las Vegas, now over 70 members strong. She has been involved with numerous boards, committees, councils and special events throughout the valley. Roxann has five children, including 3 sons of second husband Jack, as well as 3 grandchildren. She also has been active in Sicilian folk dance and tap dance. Roxann is the NSG Secretary and Bocce Ball coordinator.
